Georg Baselitz: 'Darkness Goldness' at White Cube

The Art Channel visits Georg Baselitz's exhibition 'Darkness Goldness', which explores the physical nature and symbolism of the human hand in a series of linked monotype paintings, drawings and relief sculptures. Each work is unique but in the gallery hung together they become a group exploring the character and universal meaning of the hand from the earliest cave paintings to anatomical drawings. In the series, Baselitz is making clear art historical references to Albrecht Dürer and Egon Schiele who have also employed the hand as a motif and subject.
